Toffee balls are a children’s favourite

Most of today’s parents and grandparents probably remember the legendary ETV children’s programme “Saturday evening with Dad”. It was hosted by the beloved artist Raivo Järvi, and among other things viewers were taught how to make a treat out of corn sticks and melted toffee. Since a cat named Artur was also in the studio, people started calling it Kass Artur’s cake (Kass = Cat).
Our toffee balls are made on a similar principle, except that the toffee around the corn puff is a little softer and the balls are separated from each other – so that the product is more convenient to eat without breaking or cutting. The ball shape especially appeals to small sweet-lovers, and several surveys have shown that of all Maris Gilden products it is the toffee balls that children pick as their favourite.

Kass Artur toffee balls are exciting and playful

Inside each toffee ball is a soft yet slightly crunchy corn puff, made by processing corn grits under pressure in an extruder. On the outside, Artur’s balls are coated with creamy toffee. The overall effect when eating them is this: the toffee first sweetens the mouth, and the corn puff then keeps the sweet mass in the mouth longer and stops it from “melting away”. A sweet mouthful that lasts longer 🙂
If you would like to offer your child a bit of playful activity, give them ideas of what could be built out of toffee balls. The balls stick together better if you let them warm up slightly first.

Per ball, that is. Still, it is a small “hack” for outsmarting your little sweet tooths. Children tend to be impatient (the famous marshmallow test) and to value bites or units they can pop into their mouths right away. Because toffee balls are very airy, a child who has eaten, say, 10 balls feels they have already had quite a few good mouthfuls – while consuming only 30 calories.
